Islandgrl, Love your dahlia's. Mine are doing well this fall as well. I hate to dig the tubers up yet. Soon though. I took some photos to share of my cactus dinner plate dahlia. Colors are excellent so I zoomed in on them .

Then I dig up the tubers and wash them off and leave in the sun to dry. I then pack them in saw dust or peat. I store them in my unheated garage until Spring. In the spring, some do have tiny sprouts. I plant them when the ground can be worked but still cool. Doesn't hurt them as long as they don't freeze.

I love your beautiful dahlias. I will be sharing some with friends who have expressed some interest. Too bad dahlias aren't perennials. As soon as frost hits mine I will dig up the tubers, wash them, cure them a couple of days in the sun and then pack them in saw dust. They survive in my unheated garage for the Winter where the temp. stays at about 40-45*F. By Spring they will develop shoots. My profusion zinnias are finally in profusion. I am collecting seeds for next year. They really love this moist, cooler weather. they are doing excellent. Here are a couple. I think I accidentally deleted a batch of pictures I took in the past couple of days.

Wow, I guess it's the warm weather. I have some chrysanthemums but they are very late blooming, always have been.

I haven't figured out yet how to post a picture in this forum. Chrysanthemums need a short day of sunlight to bloom. It's done artificially in greenhouses. They pull the shades.

This is a picture I took at a coffee shop I frequent. This is against a fence. There are pockets in the canvas where the flowers are planted and you get the vertical effect. Click on the bottom picture to enlarge. For some reason my camera flips the vertical. We had a hard frost today. So looks like the season is over for flowers that are not hardy. I experimented with sprinkling water on the flowers before the sun comes up. I should know enough to cover them when the sky is clear in my area. This is posted from my desktop. No problem now. Thanks for posting campy. The first picture when clicked appears on it's side. The second one was upright. Beautiful pictures.
