The Tomatoes I stored dry in a jar. I like munching on them.
I have dehydrated apples. Good stuff. I've dehydrated oranges as well.
I've made beef jerky as well. I bought the salts needed again this year, forgot about that. Will make some jerky for my hubs to munch on.
Pickled beets are awesome. Bet yours will be delish with those fresh beets too. I've not made them before. I do have a recipe(for the breadmaker) for beet bread, it's really good. I've made that using fresh beets.

The beets are almost perfectly round, great for chips: popping out of the ground this beet is about 12 inches long

I am dehydrating some pears into chips. They are so good that I have my three dehydrators in action doing a batch. I also made chips of that one beet I showed before. They were also good but didn't last. When I am finished my pear chips I will do the rest of the beets. Hey, I am enjoying this, though it is keeping me very busy. Will post some of my pear chips later. Spent the day weeding after I worked on the pears. I got 3 wheel barrow piled high. Those purslanes are driving me crazy. Yesterday I planted some of my rose cuttings and put the bottles over them.. Still have the potted cuttings to put in the ground. We have picked the squash we are going to use in the Winter. They are curing in the sun so they won't go bad too quickly. Still a lot in the garden. Hoping we will have lots of takers soon. Will post pic of that too.

It rained all day yesterday and is heavily overcast today. Will visit the garden to observe. Was able to pick green beans yesterday during a break in the rain. Will do something with tomatoes as I still have lots. I am dehydrating some Scotch Bonnet peppers to send a supply of pepper flakes to a family member in Florida. She specificly asked for it. I sent her some two years ago and now, after sharing it, everyone she knows wants some. The peppers are ripening slowly and so I am hoping that I will have enough ready for her Mom to take when she heads for Florida.
I made some lasagna for supper and used up some of my Swiss chard for a layer. I usually add a layer of spinach but I thought why not use the fresh greens from the garden. Turned out good.
Going to visit Service Canada today to renew a card. It expired a year ago and just noticed it yesterday. Why don't they send out reminders.
Have a great day everyone..........Happy Gardening.

I spent two days doing some chores in my flower gardens. I removed all the leaves from hostas to discourage slugs. Will spread some wood ash and crumbled egg shells when it stops raining over and between the hostas. This is supposed to take care of the slugs. I gave away some pears, squash, green onions (scallions), thyme, and hot peppers today. Hope for more takers tomorrow.
I planted all of my rose cuttings and did some weeding. It is supposed to be warm all week so I am going to try and finish that chore. Then I will re-do my brick edging because some of the bricks are broken.

Still available in the veggie garden:
Swiss chard, tomatoes, green beans, peppers, green onions, herbs, baby cabbage and lots of squash. A lot of the squash is gone but there is still a lot. Potatoes are dug and put away. Squash is being cured under the sun. Cantaloupes and melons are finished and there lots of watermelons with no takers. Still have to pick my grapes. The concord grapes are so very sweet. Will make some juice and snack on some. Have to do so soon before the wild turkeys and raccoons devour them. Going to start working on my flower beds this week, so I will be absent from the forum for a while.

It is still warm here and going up to 72*F today. Veggie garden still producing and maturing. The sweet peppers seem to be ripening all at once. So are the hot peppers. Going to try and make some Jerk sauce that I can preserve for the Winter. I love jerk chicken, beef and pork. Going to jerk some ribs tomorrow just to see if I will do it again. I usually use the store bought stuff. Time to try making my own when I have all the ingredients at hand. Gave away some squash last week and will again this week. Made a picking of green beans yesterday and bagged some tiny tomatoes. Having company for the weekend, so have a great one and will be back soon.

Today was a nice day for cleaning up the garden, cutting the lawn and picking some vegetables before the killer frost comes. I picked a wheel barrow full of sweet peppers. Time to make stuffed peppers for supper. I got a lot done because hubby went to get the stickers for the vehicles and to take his aunt 30 lbs of honey. It was difficult finding someone who had some to sell. His aunt wanted to take the honey to Florida. She is a snowbird starting this afternoon.
The farmer harvested the rest of the fields of corn today. The geese, crows, and wild turkeys are happy. They are having thanksgiving. The cayotes ate the pears that fell and the rabbits are eating the fallen apples. An animal(s) devoured my grapes. Could have been raccoon or deer (lots of deer foot prints in the lower garden). The purple grapes were so very sweet. I was able to get about a quart of them (green and purple.).
The weather will be good again tomorrow, (then rain) so I will get a chance to finish the cleanup of the garden. Hubby cannot help right now because he has a cracked rib.
Next week I will start a thread on Spring. Hope you will all enjoy my postings.
Have a great weekend everyone.

We are having frost almost every night now. The leaves are falling and the daily weather is very pleasant to work at raking and shredding the black gold. I am busy and liking it. Some of the leaves on the maple trees are still green so will have to wait a while for them to fall. The veggie garden is just about clean so in will go some of the shredded leaves.
I am putting some chicken wire around my blueberry plants to prevent rabbit damage, I hope. They ate a lot of the young shoots last Winter. The deer are around but not damaging them yet. I have seen two groups of wild turkeys. One has about 50 individuals and one about 12. They are wild and just seem to disappear on sight. They feed in the corn fields daily. Every had wild turkey? I was given one by a relative a couple of years ago but didn't like it.
The weather is going to be beautiful for a few days. Have yourselves a great week.
