I do like squash baked with butter and brown sugar, do you you ever grow spaghetti squash? Nope!!! They are tasteless. I was given one a long time ago and I didn't like it. I like buttercup and delacata.

Very unusual thing happened yesterday. I was raking the cut grass of a couple of days ago. I left the rake and a shovel laying on the lawn. When I returned there was a garden??? snake with half it's body length standing up straight in front of the handles. It threw me a bit and I wondered if it was going to attack but I guess it was just checking out the handles to see if they were snakes. I pulled up the rake and left the shovel. The snake then slithered over to the handle on the grass and went over the full length of the handle. I guess it was checking again close up. I was still uneasy but when I picked up the tool in slithered off under a shrub for cover. Hmmm!!! I was scared for a bit. Didn't want to tangle with a snake, but lucky me. He is harmless I think and not poisonous.

I haven't seen any around my house for some years now. I'd welcome one though.

picked more black berries, beans, corn, new potatoes and squash today. The tomatoes are riping too fast and they are huge. We weighed one and it was 2 1/2 pounds. They are perfect for hamburgers. I also filled up a box for an aunt. Gave her tomatoes, delecata and buttercup squash, cukes, beans, apple pepper, swish chard and a cabbage. You have such a nice garden Islandgrl. I'm envious. I had to downsize mine and can't grow much. My toms are ripening, I give to my neighbors what we can't eat. My other neighbor has pear and peach trees. He gave us a bunch. I now have to make something with the peaches (today I'm making peach cobbler), I've already got a freezer full of peaches and blueberries. The pears, we are eating some and I'll freeze the rest for this winter to eat. My hubs is having sugar problems right now, he's diabetic and now is trying to control his levels with insulin. So even making the peach cobbler is a no-no but I have to do something with those peaches.

My pear tree is loaded and the fruits are falling. Not going to do much with them. Hubby may have to feed them to the deer. Same with the apples. The everbearing raspberries have been ripening a couple of weeks now. I didn't have the time to pick them so yesterday I made a picking and made some raspberry sauce. I gave away most of what I made in a batch earlier in the Spring. I am going to do something with my ripe tomatoes today. Maybe some salsa...

You are busy. Salsa would be good. Will you can it?
I downsized so I wouldn't have to do that much. Only growing what we eat.

Today I picked most of the ripe tomatoes. I have it in brine and will can tomorrow. I got a recipe from a neighbour. Also picked some peppers and two delecata and cleaned up my onions. _ This year all these were worth growing. So I have ripe tomatoes and three types of peppers in this group. The little round ones in the front are called apple peppers, by my cousin who I got the seeds from, because of their shape. They are a little bit spicy close to the stem but the rest of it is mild like bell peppers. The long yellow ones are from seeds of a pepper I purchased last Fall. They are also sweet. And the red and green bell. The onions, best crop I ever had. The 3 little purple ones in the front was the size of what I planted. I couldn't find seedlings at the garden center so I purchased two pouches of discounted tiny bulbs (.99cents) package of 50.

Here is my gifted black fig plant. Has no leaves but it does have leaf buds at the tips of the branches.

I also picked these tomatoes. They are so sweet, sweeter than Tiny Tims. Nice for snacking.

I'm sure you'll save that fig! You have tons of tomatoes there. Good haul! I've been growing Sweet 100 tomatoes, a cherry tom, for a few years now, I love the sweet tart burst of them. Plenty of toms on each plant. Ever dehydrate those cherry toms? I have, they make a nice snack or an addition to a dish or salad. I dehydrated with a little salt and basil, so yummy!

That sounds like a great idea. I have 3 dehydrators so it should be done in a few hours. How did you store the dehydrated tomatoes. I tried making sun dried and stored them in olive oil. There is so much one can do with dehydrators. Thought of trying jerky, garlic for garlic powder. The list is almost endless. What I am going to try is crystalized ginger. Just love snacking on that stuff. I sliced some thinly yesterday but may not get it done until tomorrow because I am having company until tomorrow morning. Will have to take pictures of my beets. Some of them are about 6-10" long. They are the cylindrical type and are standing half out of the ground. I am going to take a shot at making beets chips. I have some pickled beets so not making that this year. Last year I dehydrated apples, pears and bell peppers.
