I don't understand the sudden need for rapid test kits, it's like the Hunger Games out there, people lining up for hours with no symptoms, wanting free kits.
This is just hysteria. Who lines up at a LCBO for hours to pick up a rapid test kit showing no symptoms? And, if these test kits where manufactured months ago, how can they detect the new variant?
I've seen people ranting and raving against Ford (Ontario) gov't because they couldn't get kits, when in reality the supply is simply drained…. Ontario has actually deployed 50 million kits…..Actually, Ontario is the only Province in Canada which has deployed more tests than they have received, this is thanks to Premier Ford who managed to procure additional rapid tests outside of the ones we get from the Feds who are responsible for procurement.
One of the issues that affects supply today, is that the gov’t has only approved approx. half a dozen suppliers in Canada, in contrast, Germany has 60 rapid tests approved. Approvals for use are exclusively Federal jurisdiction as is procurement.

It's the same in Alberta, people rushing to get kits "just because", and they are out of them everywhere. I've never had a Covid test yet, and getting a home kit would be of no use, I wouldn't use it. I've had 3 Covid shots, and if I get Covid now, a test isn't going to improve my chances, I'm not going anywhere anyway .

Talking about the virus, Very disheartening A growing body of preliminary research suggests the Covid vaccines used in most of the world offer almost no defense against becoming infected by the highly contagious Omicron variant. All vaccines still seem to provide a significant degree of protection against serious illness from Omicron, which is the most crucial goal. But only the Pfizer and Moderna shots, when reinforced by a booster, appear to have initial success at stopping infections, and these vaccines are unavailable in most of the world. Most of the World’s Vaccines Likely Won’t Prevent Infection From Omicron - www.nytimes.com/2021/12/19/health/omicron-vaccines-efficacy.html?smid=tw-share

I told my wife a few days ago that as soon as the free rapid testing kits come out, they'll be soon gone and then for sale on Ebay for $50. I was wrong, I just read they are for sale in Craigslist for $80 to $100. Scammers and deadbeats everywhere these days.

There are some situations where a test is required or desirable to an end.
Some not vaccinated are required to 'test' 2- 3 x a week by their employer. Some want an assurance before family gatherings.
Travel requirements might require a test, or borders. This current rush is like the Beanie Baby craze..
