I am a bit upset now after testing with my niece who is not vaccinated (my brother & his whole family are not vaccinated). We can't go out for lunch because she's not vaccinated and I am hesitant to get together with her at all, so now she's upset with me. Sigh... I haven't seen my family for nearly 2 years so am wondering how dangerous is it really, to get together with people who are not vaccinated.
There are so many people around the world who question this and in fact are protesting the restrictions and mandatory vaccinations. I have to say I do empathize as it doesn't sit right with me, however, should I or shouldn't I (get together) and how long will this go on for, it could be years.

The designation of the word 'pandemic' * warns those with common sense to take any and every precaution to avoid a potential death (That seems pretty clear),but some attempt to mitigate the threat.
*The word "pandemic comes from the Greek 'pandemos,' which means everybody. Demos means the population. Pan meaning everyone. So 'pandemos' is a concept where there's a belief that the whole world's population will likely be exposed to this infection and potentially a proportion of them fall sick,"
So if you have the brains to consider the consequences..Serious illness- life long disability-death, a rational person will choose to avoid the un vaccinated like you would the plague. If any refuse the vaccine they own the consequences.
There are few to none rational reasons for not getting vaccinated for COVID. Ipso facto it is those are not vaccinated that are setting their isolationist status.

If your niece and/or your brother can't understand the danger and death potential for not being vaccinated, how much more would it take ? Why would you even consider getting together with them if you didn't need to, meeting for lunch isn't a life and death requirement. I personally don't empathize with anyone who won't get vaccinated, IMO they are the major reason this pandemic continues unbated and the latest news has a new variant that might be the deadliest yet. I would say it's not a good idea to meet with your brother or anybody not vaccinated, especially since both your and your hubby are seniors and getting infected (even though being vaccinated) could prove deadly. I have attached a snip of Alberta's latest stats showing those infected, in hospital, and percentages of those completely vaccinated but still requiring hospitalization .. and some will likely die. The percentages of those fully vaccinated are a good indicator of break through infections, Ontario's numbers are rising again, and I suspect Alberta's will as well . The choice is yours.

Technology has made it easy to see and be in touch with relatives. We don't really have to be with them in person. Be selfish and Be safe no matter what.

Lunch isn't a problem it's Christmas or any other family time, they are all the family I have (other than the kids) I haven't seen them for a couple of years but guess we won't be seeing them this Christmas either.

Our family (my brother and sisters in Ontario ) have a zoom call once every couple months, that's all I need and most times the call should be shortened. I haven't seen my daughter or granddaughter in person, in over 2 years, and our son and family who live closer (250 kms) come for a day visit about twice a year, but lots of phone calls, emails with pictures and videos. IMO, Christmas is the worst time of year, commercialism, stress, unmet expectations, usually travelling is hindered by snow, storms, wind, cold, and just about always someone you visit has some type of contagion. Expectations of happiness, excitement, and frivolity are wrought with memories to be forgotten, I truly detest the entire charade .

I am going for my booster on Tuesday but I will still take precautions. We're scheduled on the 15th. Don't like the restaurants now being fully open, doubt we'll go now.
I don't know of anyone in our extended family that haven't had 2 shots. Might get together new years for a happy Hogmanay .
