No HDMI port on my Lenova but there is one on my monitor. Does that make any real difference in audio/video? Don't notice anything.
Linda's DELL has a HDMI and DVI port so I used that for the new monitor Which has a VGA PORT that I had to use with a VGA TO DVI ADAPTER. The monitor and her Dell both have HDMI, so I connected the HDMI as well. Strange my Lenova has no HDMI, maybe just too old.
I don't see much-if any anything any better than with regular VGA OR DVI OR THE HDMI cord.
AVG cord or DVI seem little different in operation. Her new monitor is a 'gaming monitor.' Got it in 2 days delivered free $80 off on sale.

I agree with you, on my PC I've got both HDMI and DVI, I've tried both and the picture is the same for my old eyes. My 13 yr old laptop only has VGA for external viewing, a bit lower resolution but OK for the few times I hook up my old in the closet VGA monitor to it. Many monitors these days have built in speakers, so you can use just a single HDMI cable for both audio and video if the monitor is so equipped. If you use DVI or VGA, you need a separate audio cable . I have a good set of speakers with a sub-woofer, so always use a separate audio cable anyway no matter what configuration .
