Toronto to ask feds to decriminalize possession of illicit drugs for personal use, should they? IMO no, they kill; should we not help with rehab rather then enabling? torontosun.com/news/local-news/toronto-to-ask-feds-to-decriminalize-possession-of-illicit-drugs-for-personal-use?utm_term=Autofeed&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1633194895The decriminalization request Toronto is preparing — which will ask Health Canada for an exemption under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act for personal drug use in the city — would follow a similar one made by Vancouver in May.
Leigh Chapman, a registered nurse and co-organizer with the Toronto Overdose Prevention Society, called Toronto’s planned federal request “a step in the right direction.”
She lost her 43-year-old brother, Brad, to an opioid overdose in August 2015 — a few weeks after he was released from jail. His death led to a coroner’s inquest that yielded a series of recommendations to better safeguard vulnerable people living with addictions.

Drugs are here to stay, maybe the government should get into selling them like marijuana, it might stop some of the gangs and dealers killing each other.

More and more Fentanyl is coming your way. Biden's open border policy is allowing drugs to pour in. Fentanyl is made in China, 'nough said.

[br It hasn't stopped the drug trade in my city. They undercut the government prices and lace their product with a more potent high to addict people. The gangs killing each other? Who cares ?

The border is restricted. Drugs are verboten, even Marijuana. You cannot enter the U.S. without going through customs. Illegal entry is a criminal act.

I could care less if the useless scum sucking drug dealers and gangs kill each other, but they have little regard for human life and it seems each fight ends with collateral damage, with innocent bystanders taking a bullet or getting knifed. North American quality of life is being eroded due to a legal system that is catch and release, police hands are being further tied due to accusations of racial injustices. In our city, and in places like Toronto and others, I could say who commits the vast majority of the crime, but then I might be accused of being racist so I won't.

In our city, and in places like Toronto and others, I could say who commits the vast majority of the crime, but then I might be accused of being racist so I won't. 'OUR' bleeding hearts want to stick their head up their posterior and deny any reference to stats-race-authenticity or religion on criminals.
Why? Human rights for criminals prevail over rights for the law abiding. Get caught with a weapon = wrist slap and lecture.
Our justice system just ain't. A life sentence is a misnomer in law.
In some jurisdictions, a "life" sentence is a misnomer in that it can come with the possibility of parole. A defendant may be eligible for parole after a set number of years, like 20, 25, or 40. A defendant who has served the minimum sentence can apply to a parole board for release. A parole hearing every few years causes grief and suffering for the families of victims as in the Paul Bernardo fiasco.
TORONTO -- "The families of the victims of Paul Bernardo, who was denied parole today for the second time in three years, say the notorious killer and rapist should not be allowed to apply for release so frequently as it forces them to constantly relive the trauma of his disturbing and horrific crimes.
Under the current legislation, Bernardo, who is one of the country’s most reviled criminals, is eligible for a parole hearing every two years. The pain is a life sentence'
The couple said it has been a “painful and difficult process” to have to prepare yet another victim impact statement just two and a half years after Bernardo’s last parole hearing."

Your statements are motherhood and apple pie positions that I and most with common sense would consider as being used sarcastically or ironically.
Addressed in order of your post.
Some regions will not report nor enforce laws on illegal entry. Enforcing immigration laws is one of the most daunting challenges faced by the federal government. With an estimated 8-10 million illegal aliens already present in the United States and fewer than 2,000 interior enforcement agents at its disposal, the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (BICE) has a Herculean task on its hands — one that it simply cannot accomplish ...
Border restrictions (Swiss cheese), likely miss thousands of illegal gun and drug smuggling. Millions are made transporting them.
You can enter the USA border without going through customs. Texas illegals crossing daily. "DEL RIO, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – Out of control. That’s how border agent John Anfinsen describes the amount of illegal crossings in the Del Rio area. “On a weekly basis we are somewhere between 6,000 to 7,000 in a week,” he said. “Where in years past, 2,000 would be a lot.”
Criminals seldom bother or worry about committing a criminal act. Recidivism in Canada or the USA disproves your contentious position in my opinion.
Canadian Recidivism> In Canada, approximately 50% of tried and convicted criminals are recidivists.
So? So what if it's a criminal act ? A criminal doesn't really give a damn.
When an individual returns to prison, we call it recidivism. In Canada, approximately 50% of tried and convicted criminals are recidivists. Do you think labelling someone a criminal matters if they get away with it? If a law is unenforceable it's of little use saying an act is criminal.

They can enter illegally but they have no status and can be deported.

They can enter illegally but they have no status and can be deported. You stated categorically and without any qualification that.
"The U.S. doesn't have an open border policy. The border is restricted. Drugs are verboten, even Marijuana.
You cannot enter the U.S. without going through customs.
Illegal entry is a criminal act."
My response took issue with some of those claims.
Would you now like to go back and expand, qualify or explain your statements? I 'd be interested in your perhaps, rethink?
Seems more half truths than facts as the statements stand. However As usual I welcome the opportunity to respond to such seemingly dogmatic statements.

If it was an open border policy there would be no illegals.
Republicans claim an open border policy. It's the same policy that was under Trump.
The individual states have an open border policy. Not federal international borders between Canada and Mexico.
Why is that so hard to explain to right Wingers?
