Phishing is a cybercrime in which a target or targets are contacted by email, telephone or text message by someone posing as a legitimate institution to lure individuals into providing sensitive data such as personally identifiable information, banking and credit card details, and passwords. I notice it's getting worse and more creative.
I rec'd an E mail from a person that I knew, with a request for a favor. Favor - not favour (Canadian sp. ), was a flag. I replied "If I Can" and rec'd a follow up for some help shopping for an item, as "Arthritis restricted their doing so."
Now Since I know the REAL person, I knew it was just phishing and ghosted the mailer. Was there any more that I could do? Report?
Advice?

Phishing and SPAM emails are rampant in today's world, and getting worse, it's estimated that 320 billion spam emails are sent each day. Just lately, my wife's normally quiet gmail account became a hotbed of all sorts of spam , some very nasty porn crap included with phishing emails. Of course I jokingly asked which sites she was going into, and got a cold stare . The only thing she could think of was a Facebook post by one of her old girl friends that had hundreds of email addresses, (hers included). Her friend isn't very careful about what she puts online, so I told my wife to get out of Facebook and delete her account since she doesn't use it anymore. The damage is done already, and I put some filters onto her gmail account for now and will see how it transpires, if they continue I'll sign her up for a new account. I seldom get spam, but a couple days ago I got an email with my actual name and correct email address from what appears to be a woman I've never heard of, wanting to meet and likely wants to fleece me out of some money. I sure wouldn't reply to such, but it annoyed me, so I'm thinking of putting her email address into some anonymous online sites that will spam the heck out of her. If I get another, she'll end up with an inbox full of replies from investment companies, car salesmen, and maybe a variety of adult services .

I get a few phone calls like that and of course emails. I report them as spam, not much else you can do.
Talking about scams, I took a chance knowing that it was iffy, but I couldn't resist. It was a site on FB showing an outdoor set from Wayfair, looking as if it was Wayfair but it wasn't. I tried to buy the set through Paypal but Paypal said it was a restricted site so you know that's a no no. I tried another site which Paypal accepted so I ordered it, I would not have done so if not through Paypal because they will refund your money if it's a scam. I reported the first site to FB.
Will be interesting to see what happens, if I get it all or it's dolls furniture or something LOL
