I read this on Quora
If there was a vote held in Canada to join the United States, do you think they would vote in favor of it?

No, I wouldn't if it meant a total merge with the US. I could see perhaps an East / West split, since Canada is totally divided, as are most of the US states. There is very little difference between the prairie provinces and the states below them, both geographically and the people living there. I sure wouldn't want the crime and cultural influences of the big US cities infiltrating Canadian cities, we have trouble enough now, we don't need LA, or Chicago in Canada. You can be sure if it happened, gun ownership in Canada would skyrocket, and the infiltration of mainstream gangs and crime would take over .

The gun culture alone has me abhorred. Already in my city you can see the influence of guns and they are coming from Southern Ontario because the trade in drugs is double the price in Toronto. It's very lucrative. There's a big difference between Montana and Alberta.

No, I wouldn't want to merge, although we could be the 51st State, but it would be a big one, so maybe 2 or 3 states with autonomy. Agree the gun culture thing is a detriment.
