Have you ever had an invasion of fruit flies?
They are so hard to get rid of.
You can set traps and get quite a few of them however they don't seem to disappear completely and then they pop up again. While cleaning around a window that was stuck because of the cold, I applied some heat and they came out. So they are like other flies. They hibernate in winter. I never knew that.
They were really pesky this summer but I found the source and got rid of most of them. They are also cannibalistic and when a food source is scarce they eat one another.
I found vinegar attracts them.

I had some in the Fall when I had a pile of fresh fruits. I conquered them by being vigilant. I set up a trap made of fruit juice/or cider vinegar and a drop or two of dish soap. I still have it on the window sill over my sink. But it also helps to empty kitchen scraps/garbage daily. Haven't seen any in a few weeks. But the problem could start all over again when you bring fresh fruits and fruit products from the store.

Happens often in the summer, I usually set traps too. Have to be really careful about leaving food out.
