Neat, do you use it? I haven't skated in eons, never was any good at it. I played hockey. Skating is not like swimming. It doesn't come back to you as you get older. It requires good balance. I tried it when my grandson visited. It was terrible. I couldn't believe how bad I was. Never went back.

I played hockey. Skating is not like swimming. It doesn't come back to you as you get older. It requires good balance. I tried it when my grandson visited. It was terrible. I couldn't believe how bad I was. Never went back. How true, my son bought me a pair of new CCM skates for Christmas about 30 years ago . I used to skate a lot, on frozen lakes, ponds, and rinks and thought I was pretty good at zipping around and giving snow showers . I walked down to the ice arena early one day and laced up the skates, they fit OK and had great support, but after not skating for 25 years, it felt like I was wearing frozen mukluks. I managed to make a few rounds at the rink, but I had absolutely no skills of my youth, and my feet were cramping after about 20 minutes. A couple weeks later, I tried one more time and the result was worse as I tripped on the ice and bruised my arm, and then realized that my skating days were over. I managed to sell the skates for a tiny fraction of their worth, and haven't had the urge to skate again since.

I never skated nor do I recall ever wanting to. Went with kids just for the hot chocolate. Skating around in circles is like pretending you like jogging.

When I was in my teens, skating was a great way to socialize and meet girls. Every Saturday, the local rink had public skating with music of the latest hits, and it was a meeting place for just about everyone. Us guys would gather and talk about the girls skating around the rink, then you'd gather up your courage and ask the designated cutie if you could skate with her. Most times the invitation was accepted, then you skated mit in mit around the rink until the song was over, and then you could ask for another, or say thanks and go back to eye more prey. One of my best friends met his wife while at a skating party, they were married before they were even 20 yrs old, and were together until he died about 3 yrs ago . It was a healthy and fun way to spend time, no drugs, no booze, I guess you could say it was the first type of social media.

When i grew up skating on outdoor rinks had music playing on an outdoor speaker. And on Sunday nights you skated with a girl on your arm. And the girls loved it. You skated to the music. It was like dancing. And the girls always outnumbered the guys. Those were the teen years. Really a lot of fun.

Memories huh !
Years ago, before we were married we went skating now and then at the Ted Reeves arena in East York, we always went around Christmas time with family. I had a great pair of ice skates that I liked, they fit well etc. then one day I went to get them out of the trunk and the battery had leaked acid all over them, from then on I was "acid boots". I never did buy another pair.
