Truckers are shrinking in numbers by the hour as sickness and vaccination requirements USA and Canada become more strict.
Supply chains broken and drivers diminished = loss to supplies and skyrocketing prices.
The only answer is to STOP! the pandemic !!
We can live with an epidemic, annual vaccines, but those hold outs are sabotaging efforts and extending the pandemic.
IF the cost in sickness and in millions of lives won't sway the ignorant nor reach the reluctant or unreachable further actions need be taken!
Draconian measures? Stricter laws? Mandates?
Many people can't get needed hospital treatment because over half those filling hospitals are the unvaccinated.
There has to be consequences to those that are threatening the general population with their unacceptable denial of facts.
Millions dead or impacted!
IF the cost in sickness and in the loss of millions of lives won't sway the ignorant nor reach the reluctant or unreachable there must be actions. More stick--less carrot!

The whole issue is because we have a society who thinks they can do whatever, whenever they want, you know that "freedom" word. It's the perfect storm, and Canada is saddled with a feckless prime Minister and his butt kissing amateur cabinet. We are in the beginning stages of the implosion, you haven't seen anything yet.

Prices to soar? I'll tell you where prices have soared. It's at the deli. The price to pick up a piece of breaded chicken and a small potato salad? The panko breaded chicken was 4.60 and the small potato salad was 4.46 And on top of that there is tax on "prepared meals". Luckily I can still cook for myself and I pick up the deli stuff once in a while when I don't feel like cooking or can't come up with an idea. My friend lives alone. He doesn't cook. He depends on the deli. And the odd time I crave chinese food. Sample Combination dinner for one. Sweet and Sour Wontons, Beff Chop Suey, Chicken fried rice... $16.95 plus tax, plus tip. I can easily make two meals out of that however. The most inexpensive item on the grocery list? Bananas- 2 bananas- .41 cents. But what the heck it's food and a good place to spend your money for the convenience. And then I look at the receipt and I have a lottery ticket for $6.00 and a for $3.00. Gambling and drinking.

I found the figures shockingly low yesterday when they released the percentage increases on goods.
I don't know where these figures came from but groceries have gone up a lot more than 5 to 7%

I never believe that price index, and it does not include rent or mortgages so doesn't reflect reality. It said I think 4.8% but it's double that in some cases, so go figure. The carbon tax has caused part of this as it increases the cost of everything, not just gas. 1) Don't spend $100 billion on stimulus that the Parliamentary Budget Officer says isn't need. (2) Defer 40% increase in carbon tax to $50 per tonne scheduled for April 1. (3) Scrap 2nd carbon tax -- the Clean Fuel Standard scheduled -- until end of March at least. Carbon taxes may slow economic growth for decades, says a Bank of Canada report. The outlook follows a Budget Office forecast that taxing fuel to lower emissions would cut workers’ net income. Do you really believe Canadians will rise up or the economy will implode? If the truckers can't cross the border it just might happen sooner rather than later. I'm starting to change my mind about vax mandates etc. While I do believe everyone should get vaccinated the numbers now show the vaccinated are getting sick too, the unvaccinated just get sicker. The U.K. et al are dropping the mandates and opening up, maybe it's time we did too.

I am sooooo glad I put in a little veggie garden and now have an assortment of frozen veggies as a visit to the store yesterday showed a few bare veggie bins.
I'll bet that quite a few this summer will be doing the same and community shared gardens will become more popular.

I'm seeing imports from a lot of South American countries now.
Chile for example.
We still are getting quite a few imports of fresh strawberries from the United States.
Ontario farmers as well are represented.

Yesterday for the first time, I have seen shortages in the Metro store I shop at. The fridge was practically empty and the pastry freezer as well. Panic has set in. I grabbed the last can of imported that was left.

I've been at 2 large grocery stores the past 2 days, and there were a few empty shelves, mostly things from the US like orange juice. Everything else was well stocked and neither store was busy, in and out in 10 minutes, the cashiers were waiting for us. Going to Costco tomorrow, so don't expect anything radical, there was lots of everything last time we went . Nobody appears to be in panic mode in Alberta yet, but the Golden Horseshoe area has twice the population of our entire province, so less mouths to feed and lots more wide open spaces.

A few things missing here but not bad so far (touch wood).
The Liberals are playing it down but it is getting worse, 60% report having a problem feeding their family now.

With the war in the Ukraine and all the mandates, prices will skyrocket even where they are not related. Just an excuse.

My son in Calgary is doing some basement renos, putting in a bathroom and bedroom . I helped him with the electrical using facetime, and he managed to get it all done and inspected, including installing 4 breakers into the electrical panel, without getting fried. He bought a lot of the materials in January, and stored it in his garage and in a spare room. As per usual, he underestimated some things and had to get additional material and supplies. He says most of the trim, doors, studs, and other things are over double what he paid a couple months ago. I could see maybe 20% increases due to supply, covid, and inflation issues, but doubling the prices is just pure gouging and it seems to be the norm in some places these days. Hang on to your butt, things have only started to get worse, when the trillions of dollars of Liberal debt come home to roost, with housing unavailable to those who don't have a million dollars to put as a down payment, fuel at $2 + a litre, and inflation rising dramtically, we will look like Venezuela north.
